May 29, 2022 Sea day #2

Our second Sea Day and the clocks were turned back to Eastern Time overnight. After breakfast, the captain’s announcement informed us that the ship had travelled 369 nautical miles since Bermuda and there are 403 nautical miles to Charleston, South Carolina where we visit tomorrow and the day after. There have also been four cases of COVID so far detected on board. Face masks are being encouraged especially in the theatre and Casino. The staff wear N95 masks although the few passengers who are wearing masks usually are wearing blue medical masks. The sky was partly cloudy and there was a brief shower in the afternoon. We walked for 30 minutes on Deck 11 after breakfast.

We had lunch in the Cosmopolitan main dining room. The couple at the next table were from Philadelphia. We enjoyed chatting with them. Afternoon was quiet, reading on Deck 4 in the shade. This evening, in the Cosmopolitan main dining room, the table beside us was occupied by 84 year old Milton who may have mild dementia and his friend, 62 year old Karen, for who, Milton had bought a pair of $6K diamond hoop earrings from the Effy Jewelry shop on board. Over a dozen times Milton kept saying that Karen “was so pretty”. He didn’t seem interested in eating much and fell asleep a few times.  I hope he is a little more with it at our final few dinners.  The entertainment in the theatre this evening was the duo Matt and Lainee, guitarist and vocalist who gave a show of rock, jazz and blues tunes.  The mystery of the person who missed the ship yesterday was solved by the Cruise Director. The person was the magician, David Anthony, who’s plane was delayed, only landing at the northeast end of Bermuda at 1:37 p.m. when the ship was scheduled to leave at 2 p.m. He did not even clear Bermuda Customs until after 2 p.m.  He is now joining the ship in Charleston tomorrow and scheduled to perform in the evening.
